My Oscar Picks
The Oscars are this Sunday. Here is my full list of who will win and who should win which Academy Awards.
Best Picture
Who Will Win
The King’s Speech
Who Should Win
Not The King’s Speech. I would give the award to either Black Swan, The Social Network or Inception if I was a member of the Academy. Black Swan and The Social Network were tremendous films, and both have a chance of winning. Inception should definitely not be ruled out simply because it was commercially successful. It was still a truly original film which was made fabulously; unfortunately, many members of the Academy will not see it this way.
Best Actor in a Leading Role
Who Will Win
Colin Firth for The King’s Speech
Who Should Win
Colin Firth. Despite the fine skill of the other nominees, Colin Firth is going to take home the statuette this year.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role
Who Will Win
Christian Bale for The Fighter
Who Should Win
Christian Bale, although Geoffrey Rush, Jeremy Renner and the other nominees were great, I have no argument on this one.
Best Actress in a Leading Role
Who Will Win
Natalie Portman for Black Swan
Who Should Win
Natalie Portman.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Who Will Win
Melissa Leo for The Fighter
Who Should Win
This is probably the toughest of the large categories this year. Amy Adams and Melissa Leo were both great in The Fighter, but to me the most surprisingly good role was Hailee Stanfield in True Grit.
Best Direction
Who Will Win
David Fincher for The Social Network
Who Should Win
Since Christopher Nolan wasn’t even nominated, I’ll go with David Fincher deserving this one, but Darren Aronofsky was great too.
Best Writing (Original Screenplay)
Who Will Win
David Seidler for The King’s Speech
Who Should Win
Christopher Nolan for Inception, he wasn’t even nominated in the direction category and Inception had one of the most thrilling and original scripts in years!
Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay)
Who Will Win
Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network
Who Should Win
Aaron Sorkin. The Social Network has a great script which tells the story of Facebook and of Mark Zuckerberg’s rise to fame and power with extreme talent.
Best Cinematography
Who Will Win
True Grit
Who Should Win
True Grit, it had beautiful lighting and camera techniques which perfectly portrayed the essence of the Wild West, as well as capturing the story effectively.

The Social Network, unfortunately, the Academy is more likely to go with the Best Picture winning film for this category.

Toy Story 3
Who Should Win
Toy Story 3
Best Music (Original Score)
Who Will Win
The King’s Speech
Who Should Win
The King’s Speech
Best Music (Original Song)
Who Will Win
“Coming Home” from Country Strong
Who Should Win
It’s unlikely that an animated Disney movie will get Best Song, and it definitely won’t go to Tangled, so I think “Coming Home” is a safe guess.
Best Art Direction
Who Will Win
The King’s Speech
Who Should Win
The King’s Speech is a fine choice, True Grit is also a contender.
Best Costume Design
Who Will Win
Alice in Wonderland
Who Should Win
Alice in Wonderland
Best Makeup
Who Will Win
The Wolfman
Who Should Win
The Wolfman
Best Foreign Language Film
Who Will Win
Biutiful
Who Should Win
Biutiful. This is a category I have the least knowledge about, I haven’t seen any of the nominated films but Benicio del Toro was nominated for his role in this film and I have heard enough positive reviews to guess that Biutiful will win.
Best Short Film (Animated)
Who Will Win
Day & Night
Best Short Film (Live Action)
Who Will Win
Na Wewe
Best Documentary Feature
Who Will Win
Inside Job
Best Documentary Short Subject
Who Will Win
Strangers No More
